Water Music – Handel
My mum bought me a cassette player and four cassettes for my 4th birthday. This was one of them. I played it as I fell asleep every night for a couple of years until the tape broke. Hearing the opening chords still makes me feel like a wee boy getting a hug from his mum.
Ein Deutsches Requiem – Brahms
I lived in Australia when I was 19 and went back-packing around the country. I listened to this over and over while gazing at those incredible endless landscapes out of the window of the bus.
Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben – J.S. Bach
I worked as a wedding singer in Barcelona for a very happy year. We sang this at every wedding as the couple walked down the aisle. Seven years later it was played at my own wedding.
That’s Amore – Dean Martin
Memories of dancing with my wife. When we got married she walked down the aisle to this.
Footloose – film soundtrack
This was the first album I bought with my own pocket money after my cousin took me to see the film at the cinema when I was 11. It was the start of a terrible addiction to cheesy 80s pop and bad dancing at discos.
